Each bead varies in size, shape and color no two beads are exactly alike. Because these are natural stone beads, each one has its own character including crackling, inclusions, chips, etc...

Dumortierite is a beautiful blue-grey stone similar in color to other blue stones Lapis and Sodalite. First described in 1881, the stone is named after French paleontologist Eugène Dumortier. The stone’s chemical makeup is Aluminum Boro-Silicate Hydroxide and it sometimes is found in quartz as inclusions. It’s found all over the world like Brazil, the US, Europe and Canada, with most mined rough being cut and polished in East Asia. Fun fact, because of the high aluminum content in Dumortierite, the mineral has been used in the manufacture of high grade porcelain for spark plugs!

These beads measure 8mm in diameter and the center-drilled holes measure about .5mm to 1mm in diameter. The strand measures about 7.5" inches long and there are approximately 24 beads on a strand. These beads originate from Brazil.
